3 Healthy Potato Chip Alternatives That Will Satisfy Your Cravings
February 29, 2016
Salty LOVA? I’ve got something for you!
It’s a Netflix and Chill type of night, and you’re craving something salty + crunchy. But, you’ve done a great job sticking to your New Year’s resolutions and don’t want to blow your new healthy lifestyle with a large bag of potato chips. Thankfully, those cravings can be satisfied with healthier alternatives that you won’t feel guilty about!
1. Homemade Popcorn
As long as you don’t make it a “cinema” popcorn and add tons of artificial butter and salt, you are good to go. Popcorn is a whole grain low-calorie snack that is high in fiber and antioxidants. Don’t rush into the supermarkets to load up on microwave popcorn after reading this post. The healthiest way to make your popcorn is on the stovetop or with a popcorn maker. Simply toss popcorn with 1-2 tsp of extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil and sprinkle in high quality sea salt or spices of your choice.
2. Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds are great natural sources of vitamins, protein, healthy fats, minerals, and fiber. For weight loss and nutritional value choose raw and unsalted options. Also, be sure to avoid sugar coated nuts or trail mixes with added candy. Look for peanuts, pistachios, sunflower or pumpkin seeds that are still in their shells. Not only do they taste delicious, but having to crack them yourself might actually stop you from eating too many.
3. Crunchy Veggies & Dip
Pick your favorite veggies and chop them into small dipping slices. I love cucumbers, bell peppers, radishes, carrots, and cherry tomatoes! You can find a great variety of healthy and delicious dips in the grocery store, but consider making one at home. Power up your veggies with creamy cucumber dip, guacamole, spinach and artichoke dip, or your favorite hummus.
Salty snack cravings may be a sign that your body isn’t getting what it needs. Before you reach for a pack of Pringles, ask yourself if you are drinking enough water. Dehydration is one of the main reasons of salt cravings. If you can’t overcome your cravings, I am here to help you and lead you along the way.
